Pyotr Konchalovsky

Pyotr Petrovich Konchalovsky (1876–1956) was a Russian and Soviet painter, a leading figure of the Russian avant-garde and later Moscow social realism. He worked in portrait and still life genres, was a member of the 'Jack of Diamonds' movement, an Academician of the USSR Academy of Arts, and a Stalin Prize laureate.

Biography

Pyotr Petrovich Konchalovsky was born on February 9, 1876, in the city of Slavyansk. He was a painter, graphic artist, illustrator, stage designer, and a prominent figure in the visual arts. Konchalovsky was a follower of Post-Impressionism and one of the outstanding representatives of the Russian avant-garde. Later in his career, he became a significant figure in Moscow's social realism. He participated in the artistic movement known as 'Jack of Diamonds' and created works in the genres of portrait and still life. In 1943, he was awarded the Stalin Prize, first class. In 1946, he was given the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR. Konchalovsky was among the first full members of the USSR Academy of Arts. He passed away on February 2, 1956, in Moscow.
