Peter Handke

Biography

Peter Handke was born on December 6, 1942, in Griffen, Austria. He is a noted Austrian writer, playwright, screenwriter, and artist. Handke’s literary work spans multiple genres including poetry, theater, essays, diaries, and screenplays. He also engaged in directing and translation. In literary circles, he is associated with the movements “Group 47” and “Wiener Gruppe.” Among his most prominent works are “Offending the Audience,” “The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick,” “A Sorrow Beyond Dreams,” “The Left-Handed Woman,” “Short Letter, Long Farewell,” and “The Moravian Night.” For his contributions to literature, Handke was awarded the Schiller Memorial Prize in 1995 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2019. His national and cultural affiliation is Austrian.
