Percy French was born on May 1, 1854, in Roscommon, Ireland. Professionally trained as an engineer, he was also recognized as a notable artist, composer, and songwriter. His creative work encompassed various artistic fields: he was a poet, author, and performer of songs, as well as a painter. One of his significant works is the song "Are Ye Right There Michael." French represented the Irish cultural milieu and left a considerable mark on the musical and poetic legacy of the country. He passed away on January 24, 1920, in Formby, United Kingdom.
