Biography
Pekka Halonen was born on September 23, 1865, in Lapinlahti, located in the Grand Duchy of Finland, then part of the Russian Empire. He was a Finnish artist and professor who worked in painting, landscape, still life, and genre painting. Halonen is recognized as a representative of romantic nationalism. His paintings most often depict winter landscapes, portraits, and genre scenes, which brought him prominence. He lived and created during a period of significant cultural change in Finland. Halonen died on December 1, 1933, in Tuusula. His work is closely associated with the Finnish region and the historical period of the Grand Duchy of Finland.
