Owusu-Ankomah
Owusu Ankomah (1956–2025) was a Ghanaian artist born and died in Sekondi-Takoradi. His work explored identity and the body using Adinkra symbolism. He studied art at Achimota College near Accra.
Biography
Owusu-Ankomah was born on October 24, 1956, in Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana. He was an artist known for his works exploring identity and the human body, using characteristic Adinkra symbols, a traditional symbolic system of the Akan people of Ghana. His artistic influences included the Renaissance period, ancient manuscripts, Chinese ideograms, and contemporary global cultures. Owusu Ankomah received his art education at Achimota College near Ghana's capital Accra. This institution was founded in 1936 and became part of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi in 1952. The artist lived his entire life connected to his homeland; he died on February 6, 2025, in Sekondi-Takoradi.
