Omar Rayo

Biography

Omar Rayo (January 20, 1928, Roldanillo — June 7, 2010, Palmira) was a Colombian painter, sculptor, caricaturist, and art figure. He possessed a broad creative range, working both as a draftsman and painter. Rayo was recognized for his use of abstract geometry, most often employing black, white, red, and yellow colors. His artistic practice was associated with the op art movement, blending elements of the past and future within his works. In 1970, he won the Salon of Colombian Artists. His work demonstrates a deep interest in visual and geometric techniques grounded in historical traces, allowing him to discover new ways of presenting artistic sketches.
