Olga Rozanova

Biography

Olga Vladimirovna Rozanova was born on June 21, 1886, in the town of Melenki, Russian Empire. She was a Russian painter and graphic artist, as well as a book illustrator and creator of decorative and applied arts. Additionally, Rozanova was a poet and an author of art articles. During the early years of Soviet Russia, she took an active role as an organizer of cultural development. Rozanova stood out as one of the leading representatives of the Russian avant-garde, integrating styles such as Suprematism, Neo-primitivism, and Cubo-Futurism in her work. In 1917, she produced one of the significant works of abstractionism, the painting "Green Stripe," which anticipated similar trends in American abstract art by several decades. Her professional activities included painting, graphic arts, illustration, collage, as well as textile design and artistic decoration. Among her recognized professions are poet, draftsman, writer, and visual arts figure. Olga Vladimirovna Rozanova passed away on November 7, 1918, at the S. P. Botkin City Clinical Hospital in Moscow, RSFSR.
