Nikos Engonopoulos (1907–1985) was a Greek artist, poet, illustrator, and writer. A leading figure of the Greek Generation of the 1930s, he was a prominent representative of surrealism in Greece.
Biography
Nikos Engonopoulos was born on October 21, 1907, in Athens, Greece. He was a versatile Greek artist involved in painting, poetry, illustration, and writing. In addition, he worked as a scenographer, theatrical designer, and costume artist. Engonopoulos also served as a university lecturer. He is recognized as one of the principal representatives of the Greek Generation of the 1930s and a leading figure in the surrealist movement within Greece. His artistic and literary works were primarily created within the Thirties Generation movement. Engonopoulos's creative output significantly influenced the development of 20th-century Greek art. He passed away on October 31, 1985, in Athens.
