Nikolay Yegorovich Makovsky was born on April 28, 1841, in Moscow, Russian Empire. He was a Russian artist specializing in genre and landscape painting. Throughout his life, Makovsky became one of the founders of the Society for Traveling Art Exhibitions, an organization that played a significant role in the development of Russian art by promoting the broad public display of artists’ works. Nikolay was a brother to the well-known painters Konstantin and Vladimir Makovsky. His creative activity took place within the artistic milieu of the 19th-century Russian Empire. Nikolay Yegorovich Makovsky passed away on October 6, 1886, in Saint Petersburg.
