Nikolay Kasatkin

Biography

Nikolay Alekseevich Kasatkin was born on December 25, 1859, in Moscow, where he lived and worked throughout his life. He was a genre painter working in the style of realism. Living through the era of counter-reforms and the Silver Age, Kasatkin supported democratic realism. Later, he became one of the founders of socialist realism painting. In addition to his artistic career, he was engaged in teaching. Kasatkin died on December 17, 1930, in Moscow. Among his notable works is the painting "Mine Worker Woman." His creative and pedagogical activities were connected to both the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union.
