Nikolaos Gyzis
Nikolaos Gyzis (1842–1901) was a Greek painter and graphic artist of the academic style, a leading representative of the Munich School of Greek painting and Impressionism. He also taught at the university level.
Biography
Nikolaos Gyzis was born on March 1, 1842, on the island of Tinos. He is regarded as one of the most prominent Greek painters of the nineteenth century, working in academic painting and graphic arts. Throughout his creative career, Gyzis was associated with the Munich School of Greek painting and represented Impressionism. In addition to creating artworks, including the notable work "The Betrothal of the Children," he was also engaged in teaching. Gyzis worked as an instructor, university professor, and art teacher, contributing to the development of visual arts both in Greece and internationally. He passed away on January 4, 1901, in Munich.
