Nikolai Kornilievich Bodarevsky (1850–1921) was a Russian and Ukrainian painter associated with St. Petersburg academicism. He excelled in salon portraiture, genre scenes, and church decoration. Bodarevsky was an academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts and a member of several artistic societies.
Biography
Nikolai Kornilievich Bodarevsky was born on November 12, 1850, in Odessa, then part of the Russian Empire. He was a Russian and Ukrainian painter affiliated with St. Petersburg academicism. Bodarevsky was recognized as a master of salon portraiture, genre paintings, and church decoration. His artistic work encompassed nudes, religious paintings, everyday genre scenes, and portraits. He held the title of academician at the Imperial Academy of Arts and was a member of the Peredvizhniki (The Wanderers) and the Association of South Russian Artists. Bodarevsky made a significant contribution to the art of the era of counter-reforms and the Silver Age. He passed away in 1921 in his native city of Odessa.
