Niki de Saint Phalle
Niki de Saint Phalle (1930–2002) was a French theatrical artist and sculptor, associated with art feminism and new realism. She worked in public art and figurativism, known as co-creator of the Stravinsky Fountain in Paris.
Biography
Niki de Saint Phalle was born on October 29, 1930, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. She was a theatrical artist and sculptor, recognized as a prominent figure in art feminism and the new realism movement. Her creative work encompassed public art, figurativism, conceptual art, illustration, jewelry design, installation art, and scenography. During her lifetime, Niki de Saint Phalle acquired citizenship of France, Switzerland, and the United States. She was married to sculptor Jean Tinguely. One of their most famous joint projects was the Stravinsky Fountain in Paris. Among her notable works are the Stravinsky Fountain, the Tarot Garden, Le Cyclop, the Nanas, the Golem, and the Sun God. Additionally, Niki de Saint Phalle was active as a performance artist, model, filmmaker, film director, and stage director. She passed away on May 21, 2002, in La Jolla.
