Biography

Nicholas Konstantinovich Roerich was born on September 27, 1874, in Saint Petersburg. He was active in a wide range of cultural and scientific fields: artist, stage designer, thinker, writer, traveler, and archaeologist. In 1909, he became an academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts. His artistic work includes genres such as religious art, landscape, allegory, genre scenes, marines, and mythological painting. Roerich had a multifaceted professional career: he worked as a painter, monumental artist, illustrator, designer, graphic artist, costume designer, screenwriter, and was engaged in choreography and literature. Additionally, Nicholas Konstantinovich was a philosopher, mystic, occultist, historian, diplomat, archaeologist, poet, jurist, and exploring traveler. His life and work are connected with the Russian Empire. Nicholas Konstantinovich Roerich passed away on December 13, 1947, in Kullu.
