Napoleon Abueva was born on January 26, 1930, in Tagbilaran, Philippines. He was a sculptor and theatrical actor who worked within the modernist genre. Abueva became known as the "Father of Modern Philippine Sculpture." In 1976, at the age of 46, he was awarded the title of National Artist of the Philippines for sculpture, making him the youngest recipient of this honor.
