Nadir Afonso
Nadir Afonso (1920–2013) was a Portuguese artist and architect, known as a pioneer of kinetic art. He began his career in architecture working with Le Corbusier and Oscar Niemeyer before studying painting in Paris.
Biography
Nadir Afonso was born on December 4, 1920, in Chaves, Portugal. Early in his career, he received formal education in architecture and worked with the renowned architects Le Corbusier and Oscar Niemeyer. Subsequently, Afonso continued his studies in painting in Paris, where he became one of the pioneers of kinetic art. His creative work was closely associated with geometric abstraction. In addition to his artistic practice, he was also known as a philosopher and graphic artist. Nadir Afonso passed away on December 11, 2013, in Cascais, Portugal.
