Na Hyesŏk
Na Hyesŏk (1896–1948) was a Korean poet, writer, educator, journalist, feminist activist, and the first professional Korean modernist artist. She also worked as an engraver and sculptor.
Biography
Na Hyesŏk was born on April 18, 1896, in Suwon, Republic of Korea. She was a poet, writer, educator, journalist, and an activist of the feminist movement. Na Hyesŏk is recognized as the first professional Korean modernist artist. In addition to her visual arts work, she practiced as an engraver and sculptor. Her activities also included philosophical and political work. She was a representative figure of the Korean nationality and cultural environment of the Republic of Korea. Na Hyesŏk passed away on December 10, 1948, in Seoul. Besides her artistic work, she was involved in journalism and writing, and was known for her activism, highlighting her public stance.
