Myrna Báez (1931–2018) was a Puerto Rican painter, printmaker, and lithographer, recognized as one of the most important visual artists of Puerto Rico. Her works are held in major museums in the United States. She lived and worked in San Juan.

Biography

Myrna Báez was born on August 18, 1931, in Santurce, Puerto Rico. She was a Puerto Rican painter, printmaker, lithographer, teacher, and arts advocate. Báez is regarded as one of the most significant visual artists in her country. Her works have been exhibited and are included in the collections of prestigious institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Her artistic style is characterized by confidence and complexity. Báez lived and worked in San Juan until her death on September 24, 2018. Among her notable works is a piece titled "Platanal."
