Mykola Burachek

Biography

Mykola Hryhorovych Burachek was born on March 16, 1871, in Letychiv. He was a painter specializing in landscape and still life genres, working in the Impressionist style. In addition to painting, Burachek was also a stage designer, actor, educator, writer, and art historian. He taught at a university and was the author of numerous art historical articles and monographs. Burachek became one of the founders and the first president of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts. He was also a member of the Society of the Union of Artists of Ukraine and an exhibitor of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine. In 1936, he was honored with the title of Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR, and in 1941, as Honored Art Worker of the Ukrainian SSR. Mykola Hryhorovych lived and worked through the periods of the Russian Empire, the Ukrainian People's Republic, the Ukrainian State, and the USSR. He passed away on August 12, 1942, in Kharkiv.
