Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian was born in 1924 in Qazvin, Iran. She was an artist, mosaicist, art figure, and collector of artworks. Throughout her life, Monir became recognized as one of the most outstanding contemporary Iranian artists. She was the first to create an artistic practice that combined geometric patterns and faceted mosaic techniques rooted in Iranian heritage with the rhythms of modern Western geometric abstraction. Her activity encompassed traditional folk art, which she not only studied but also collected. Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian passed away on April 20, 2019, in Tehran, leaving a significant mark on Iranian art and the global artistic culture.
