Mohd Khalil Yaakob
Mohd Khalil Yaakob, born on December 29, 1937, in Kuantan, Malaysia, is a politician who served as 6th Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka (2004-2020), 12th Menteri Besar of Pahang (1986-1999), and Minister of Information (1999-2004). He is affiliated with the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO).
Biography
Mohd Khalil Yaakob was born on December 29, 1937, in Kuantan, Malaysia. He is a seasoned politician and a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), part of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. From August 1986 to May 1999, he served as the 12th Menteri Besar of the state of Pahang. Following this, from November 1999 to March 2004, he was a member of parliament representing the Kuantan constituency. Simultaneously, from December 1999 to March 2004, he held the position of Minister of Information in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. Subsequently, from June 2004 to June 2020, he served as the 6th Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka. Beyond his political roles, he is also recognized as an art figure.
