Biography

Mirza Kadym Mamed-Guseyn oglu Irevani, also known as Mirza Kadym Irevani, was born in 1825 in Yerevan, then part of the Russian Empire. He lived his entire life in Yerevan, where he died in 1875. Mirza Kadym Irevani was an Azerbaijani artist whose principal genres included portraiture and decoration. He is recognized as an ornamental painter and portraitist of the 19th century, as well as a founder of Azerbaijani easel painting. Irevani’s work played an important role in the transition and development of Azerbaijani fine arts in the modern era. His legacy reflects the cultural and artistic traditions that existed in the Russian Empire during the 19th century.
