Biography

Miriam Syowia Kyambi was born in 1979 in Nairobi, Kenya. She is a multidisciplinary artist working across various media including photography, video, drawing, sound, sculpture, and performance. Kyambi is recognized for her performative installations that reinterpret historical Western narratives and intervene in the discourse surrounding colonial activities. Her work is distinguished by its thematic complexity, often addressing taboo or difficult subjects and creating multiple points of engagement for the viewer.
