Mikhail Vasilyevich Nesterov (1862–1942) was a Russian painter of the Silver Age and 'Counter-Reform' period, affiliated with Russian Symbolism. An academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts, he worked in landscape, portrait, historical, and religious painting. He was honored as an Art Worker of the RSFSR in 1942 and received the Stalin Prize in 1941.

Mikhail Vasilyevich Nesterov was born on May 19, 1862, in Ufa. He became a noted Russian painter during the 'Counter-Reform' era and the Silver Age, recognized as a representative of Russian Symbolism. Nesterov was an academician and a full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts. Over his career, he worked across various genres including landscape, portrait, genre scenes, historical painting, and religious art. Among his notable works are "The Vision to the Youth Bartholomew," "In Rus: The Soul of the People," "The Recluse," "The Great Tonsure," "Under the Blagovest," and a "Portrait of I. P. Pavlov." In 1941, he was awarded the Stalin Prize of the first degree, and in 1942, he received the title of Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR. Mikhail Vasilyevich Nesterov passed away on October 18, 1942, in Moscow. Throughout his life, he was connected to the cultures of the Russian Empire, the USSR, and Russia, which is reflected in his artistic work and public standing.
