Mikhail Clodt von Jürgensburg
Mikhail Konstantinovich Clodt (1832–1902) was a Russian landscape painter during the era of great reforms and counter-reforms. A descendant of the Clodt von Jürgensburg family, he lived and worked in Saint Petersburg. He served as an academician and professor at the Imperial Academy of Arts.
Biography
Baron Mikhail Konstantinovich Clodt von Jürgensburg was born on December 30, 1832, in Saint Petersburg. Descended from the Baltic German Clodt von Jürgensburg family, he became a notable Russian landscape painter active during the period of great reforms and counter-reforms. Clodt was a follower of democratic realism and dedicated himself to teaching. Throughout his life, he held the positions of academician and professor at the Imperial Academy of Arts. Additionally, he was among the founding members of the Peredvizhniki (The Itinerants) art society. Mikhail Konstantinovich Clodt lived his entire life in Saint Petersburg, where he died on May 16, 1902. His work was connected with the Russian Empire, contributing to the development of landscape painting.
