Mikhail Avilov

Biography

Mikhail Ivanovich Avilov was born on September 6, 1882, in Saint Petersburg. He was associated with both the Russian Empire and later the USSR during his lifetime. Avilov built his creative path within the framework of realism. He worked as a painter and teacher, mastering genres such as battle painting, historical scenes, genre painting, animalistic art, and landscape. Avilov was active as a painter and graphic artist, focusing on battle and historical paintings with subjects drawn from Russian and Soviet military history. Additionally, he worked as an illustrator and theatrical decorator. He was a member of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia and a full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR. In recognition of his work, he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR in 1944, the Stalin Prize first degree in 1946, and the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1953. Mikhail Ivanovich Avilov passed away on April 14, 1954, in Saint Petersburg.
