Biography

Mihri Müşfik Hanım was born on February 26, 1886, in Istanbul. She is recognized as one of the first well-known Turkish female painters whose work notably influenced the development of Turkish visual arts. Specializing primarily in portraiture, she created series of portraits depicting prominent personalities such as Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and Pope Benedict XV. Her artistic career is distinguished by its spanning three cultural and national spheres: Turkey, the Ottoman Empire, and the United States. In 1954, Mihri Müşfik Hanım passed away in New York. Her contribution to the arts is acknowledged for the skill and unique style she applied in portrait creation, establishing her as an important figure in the painting history of these regions.
