Miguel Mateo Maldonado y Cabrera, better known as Miguel Cabrera, was born on May 27, 1695, in Oaxaca de Juárez, part of New Spain. Throughout his life, he established himself as a prominent painter, becoming the foremost artist in New Spain during the 17th and 18th centuries. His career unfolded at a time when New Spain was a significant colonial territory. Cabrera passed away on May 16, 1768, in Mexico City, the capital of New Spain at that time. His artistic work reflected the cultural characteristics of the region and formed an important part of the colonial Latin American artistic heritage.
