Marlene Dumas, born on August 3, 1953, in Cape Town, South Africa, is a contemporary Dutch artist of South African origin. Her creative work spans figurative painting, portraiture, genre scenes, religious art, and nude studies. She is associated with the contemporary art movement and fulfills multiple roles as a conceptual artist, draftsman, writer, sculptor, lithographer, collage artist, and author engaged in the visual arts. Among her notable works are "The Last Supper" and "For Whom the Bell Tolls." Culturally, she is connected to both the Kingdom of the Netherlands and South Africa.
