Mario de Miranda (1926–2011) was an Indian cartoonist and artist from Goa. He contributed to The Times of India and The Illustrated Weekly of India, gaining recognition for his distinctive cartoons throughout his career.

Biography

Mario de Miranda, full name Mário João Carlos do Rosário de Brito Miranda, was born on May 2, 1926, in Portuguese India. He was a renowned Indian cartoonist and artist who lived in Lotulim, Goa. Throughout his career, Mario de Miranda regularly collaborated with newspapers in Bombay, including The Times of India and The Economic Times. He gained significant popularity through his publications in The Illustrated Weekly of India. Mario de Miranda’s cultural and national affiliations included India, British India, the Indian Union, and Portugal. He passed away on December 11, 2011, in Lotulim. In 2012, he was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor.
