Biography

Maria Katarina Wiik was born on August 2, 1853, in Helsinki, which at that time was part of the Grand Duchy of Finland. She was a Finnish artist and draughtswoman working in the genres of portrait, genre painting, and symbolism. Throughout her artistic career, Maria Wiik produced a number of notable works, including a piece titled "Out into the World." Her activity was connected to the cultural context of Finland in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Maria Wiik spent her entire life in Helsinki, where she passed away on June 19, 1928. Her art is part of the cultural heritage of Finland and the Grand Duchy of Finland.
