María Freire
María Freire (1917–2015) was a Uruguayan artist, sculptor, and art critic. Born and died in Montevideo, she was a leading figure in concrete and non-figurative art in Uruguay and co-founder of the Grupo de Arte No Figurativo.

María Freire was born on November 7, 1917, in Montevideo, Uruguay. She became known as an artist, sculptor, and art critic. Freire was a significant figure in the development of concrete art and the non-figurative movement in Uruguayan art. A key event in her creative career was the co-founding of the Grupo de Arte No Figurativo, a group that promoted and advanced these artistic trends in Uruguay. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to the development of visual art, strengthening the position of abstract and non-figurative art in Uruguayan culture. María Freire passed away on June 19, 2015, in her native Montevideo, leaving behind an important contribution to the country's art history.
