Margaret Preston
Margaret Preston (April 29, 1875 – May 28, 1963) was an Australian artist and arts figure, recognized as a leading modernist of the early 20th century. She was among the first non-Indigenous artists to incorporate Aboriginal motifs into her works, which she signed as MP.

Margaret Preston was born on April 29, 1875, in Adelaide, Australia. She worked as a painter, arts figure, and graphic artist. Preston is regarded as one of the leading Australian modernists of the early 20th century. In her works, she aimed to develop a national Australian art and became one of the first non-Indigenous Australian artists to apply Aboriginal motifs. All her works feature a distinctive MP signature. She passed away on May 28, 1963, in Sydney, Australia. Throughout her life, Margaret Preston made a significant contribution to Australian art, combining painting with printmaking and literary works on art.
