Biography
Henri-Robert Marcel Duchamp was born on July 28, 1887, in Blainville-Crevon, France. He was an artist, chess player, and art theorist recognized as one of the founders of Dadaism and Surrealism. Duchamp's work covered various media, including painting, sculpture, photography, ready-made objects, and conceptual art. He engaged in a wide range of professions and activities such as poet, actor, designer, film director, and philosopher. Throughout his life, he influenced the development of movements like Pop Art and Minimalism. Among his notable works are "Étant donnés," "L.H.O.O.Q.," and "Nude Descending a Staircase." For the last 25 years of his life, he lived in New York City, USA, where he played a key role in advancing avant-garde art. Marcel Duchamp passed away on October 2, 1968, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. His nationality was both French and American.
