Mai Dantsig

Biography

Mai Volfovich Dantsig was born on April 27, 1930, in Minsk. He became a notable Soviet and Belarusian painter specializing in monumental art genres, including landscape, cityscape, and portrait. From 1960, he was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, marking his active involvement in the visual arts. In 1980, he was awarded the title of professor, reflecting his significant contributions to art education and development. In 1968, Dantsig received the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Belarus. In 1973, he was honored with the title of Honored Art Worker of the Belarusian SSR. Later, in 1995, he was awarded the title of People's Artist of Belarus, one of the highest distinctions in the arts within the country. Additionally, in 2005 and 2010, he was awarded the Order of Francysk Skaryna and the Order of Honor, respectively, recognizing his merits. Beyond painting, Dantsig also worked as a ceramist and engaged in social activities. Mai Volfovich Dantsig passed away on March 26, 2017, in Minsk.
