Mahmoud Farshchian

Biography

Mahmoud Farshchian was born on January 24, 1930, in Isfahan, Imperial State of Iran. He was an Iranian artist and figure in visual arts, known for his fantastical scenes rendered with bright colors, birds, flowers, and images of people. His work encompasses genres including Persian painting and still life. In addition to his artistic career, Farshchian worked as an architectural designer, art teacher, and university instructor. While his works are almost unknown in Russia, they are widely recognized in the Muslim world and in the West. Among Farshchian's most notable pieces is the painting "The Evening of Ashura." His masterful technique in miniature painting distinguishes him among representatives of contemporary Iranian visual art. Mahmoud Farshchian passed away on August 9, 2025, in New Jersey.
