Mahjoubi Aherdane

Mahjoubi Aherdane (1921–2020) was a Moroccan politician, independence activist, poet, and artist. Born in Ulmes, he co-founded the Popular Movement in 1957 to defend Amazigh interests and passed away in Rabat.

Biography

Mahjoubi Aherdane was born in 1921 in the city of Ulmes, Morocco. Throughout his life, he was a politician, poet, artist, and independence movement activist. In 1957, Aherdane, together with Abdelkrim al-Khatib, founded the Popular Movement, a political party that became the main defender of Amazigh interests. The party was primarily composed of former fighters from the Moroccan Liberation Army (ALN). He played a significant role in the political life of the country, advocating for the rights and cultural identity of the Amazigh people. Mahjoubi Aherdane lived a long life and passed away on November 15, 2020, in Rabat, the capital of Morocco.
