Biography
Marta Magdalena Abakanowicz-Kosmowska was born on June 20, 1930, in Falenty. She was a Polish artist and sculptor associated with contemporary art and the figurativism movement. Throughout her creative career, Abakanowicz worked as an artist, sculptor, designer, art activist, installation artist, and performance artist. In addition, she was a teacher, university lecturer, and had experience in architectural drafting. Among her notable works are "Manus Ultimus," "Birds of Knowledge of Good and Evil," "Puellae," and "Unidentified (Poznań)." Magdalena Abakanowicz passed away on April 20, 2017, in Warsaw. Her national identity is connected to the Polish Republic, the Polish People's Republic, and modern Poland.
