Lucian Freud

Biography

Lucian Michael Freud was born on December 8, 1922, in Berlin. He was a British and German artist who worked primarily in the genres of portrait, self-portrait, nude, still life, animal painting, landscape, and genre scenes. Freud was a master of psychological portraiture. In addition to painting, he worked as a draftsman, printmaker, illustrator, graphic artist, architectural draughtsman, and arts activist. His painting style is associated with Expressionism and the London School. Freud lived and created in both the United Kingdom and Germany. He died in London on July 20, 2011. Among his notable works is "The Social Overseer Asleep."
