Biography

Louise Wilhelmina Frederika Karolina Augusta Julia of Hesse-Kassel was born on September 7, 1817, in Kassel. She was a Hessian princess who, through marriage, became Queen of Denmark as the spouse of King Christian IX of Denmark. Louise lived within the territories of both the German Empire and the Kingdom of Denmark, reflecting her dual national heritage. Beyond her royal duties, she was also recognized as an artist and consort. Throughout her life, Louise became the grandmother to several European monarchs, including Emperor Nicholas II of Russia and King George V of the United Kingdom. She passed away on September 29, 1898, at Bernstorff Palace, concluding a significant life within European royal families.
