Liu Kang
Liu Kang (1911–2004) was a Singaporean artist and cultural figure, founder of the Singapore Art Society. He is known for creating the Nanyang style, depicting tropical life with vivid, broad brushstrokes.
Biography
Liu Kang was born on April 1, 1911, in the city of Yongchun. He became one of Singapore's prominent artists and cultural figures. Throughout his life and creative career, he made a significant contribution to the development of Singapore's artistic community, serving as its founder. Liu Kang is especially recognized as the creator of the Nanyang style, in which scenes of tropical life were depicted with bright, broad brushstrokes that conveyed the unique atmosphere of the region. His artistic activity left a notable imprint on Singapore's art. Liu Kang passed away on June 1, 2004, in Singapore.
