Lili Elbe, born Einar Magnus Andreas Wegener on December 28, 1882, in Vejle, Denmark, was a painter specializing in landscapes. She became one of the first women to undergo gender confirmation surgery, officially changing her name to Lili Ilse Elvenes before ceasing her artistic work. She died in Dresden on September 13, 1931.

Biography

Lili Elbe was born Einar Magnus Andreas Wegener on December 28, 1882, in the city of Vejle, then part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Initially, she was known as a painter specializing in landscape genre. In her artistic career, Lili Elbe gained recognition and built a reputation as a professional. Later, she began to present herself as a woman and became widely known under this identity. She is also noted as one of the first women to undergo gender confirmation surgery. Upon completing a series of such surgeries, she officially changed her name to Lili Ilse Elvenes. Following her gender transition, she ceased her painting activities. Lili Elbe's life ended on September 13, 1931, when she died in Dresden.
