Biography

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, in Anchiano. He was one of the most prominent figures of High Renaissance and Renaissance art, as well as a universal man due to his diverse activities as a painter, scientist, inventor, writer, and musician. Leonardo belonged to the Florentine Republic. Throughout his life, he produced significant works spanning religious art, religious painting, and portraiture. Leonardo held many professions including painter and graphic artist, architect and architectural draftsman, inventor and mechanic, physicist and physiologist, botanist and chemist, zoologist, caricaturist, composer and librettist, scientist, writer, visual arts specialist, builder, naturalist, designer, arts figure, musician, diplomat, mathematician, anatomist, astronomer, engineer, sculptor, and mechanic, reflecting his versatility. He died on May 2, 1519, in Clos Lucé. Among his well-known works are 'Mona Lisa,' 'The Last Supper,' 'Lady with an Ermine,' 'Vitruvian Man,' 'Adoration of the Magi,' 'Madonna of the Rocks,' and 'Saint Anne with the Virgin and Child.' His contributions extend beyond visual art to engineering designs and scientific research, confirming his status as a universal genius.
