Lê Thị Lựu
Lê Thị Lựu (1911–1988) was a Vietnamese artist and one of the first female graduates of the Indochina Fine Arts School in Hanoi, invited by Victor Tardieu. At 16, she became the school's first female artist. In the 1930s, she emigrated to Paris with fellow Vietnamese artists to continue her career.
Biography
Lê Thị Lựu was born in 1911 in Vietnam. She was among the first female artists and one of the rare prominent graduates of the École des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine in Hanoi, established by Victor Tardieu. At the age of 16, Lê Thị Lựu became the school's first female artist. In the 1930s, together with other Vietnamese artists—Mai Trung Thứ, Lê Phổ, and Vũ Cao Đàm—she emigrated to France, where she continued her career in Paris. Earlier in Vietnam, Lê Thị Lựu taught at the Bưởi school, where one of her students was the notable artist Fan Kê Ân. In France, she became a productive art teacher and retired in 1971. Lê Thị Lựu passed away in 1988.
