Lê Phổ
Lê Phổ (August 2, 1907 – December 12, 2001) was a Vietnamese-French painter associated with Romanticism. He studied at the Hanoi Fine Arts School from 1925 to 1930 and continued his education in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts, where he trained under Victor Tardieu.
Biography
Lê Phổ was born on August 2, 1907, in Hạ Đông. He was connected to the artistic movement of Romanticism and culturally linked to both Vietnam and France. From 1925 to 1930, Lê Phổ studied at the Hanoi Fine Arts School. Following his studies, he received a scholarship to further his education at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where, over two years, he studied under Victor Tardieu, a friend and contemporary of Henri Matisse. After returning to Vietnam, he taught at the Indochina Fine Arts College in Hanoi. Lê Phổ was a watercolor artist and an active figure in the visual arts. He died on December 12, 2001, in Paris.
