Lars Vilks
Lars Vilks (June 20, 1946 – October 3, 2021) was a Swedish artist, cartoonist, and art theorist. He earned a PhD in art history and served as a professor of art theory. Vilks was associated with the mail art movement and contributed to art theory.
Biography
Lars Endel Roger Vilks was born on June 20, 1946, in Helsingborgs Maria, Sweden. He was a Swedish artist and cartoonist, as well as an art theorist, art historian, philosopher, blogger, draftsman, sculptor, and art critic. In 1987, Vilks earned a PhD in art history from Lund University. From 1988 to 1993, he worked at the National Academy of Art in Oslo, and from 1997 to 2003, he held the position of professor of art theory at the National Academy of Art in the city of Bergen. Vilks supported established art theory and was a representative of the mail art movement. He held Swedish citizenship and cultural affiliation with Sweden. Lars Vilks passed away on October 3, 2021, in Markaryd.
