Konstantin Somov

Biography

Konstantin Andreyevich Somov was born on November 30, 1869, in Saint Petersburg. He was a Russian painter and graphic artist, a key figure of the Silver Age in art. Somov belonged to the modernist movement and was one of the leaders of the "Russian Retrospectivists" circle. Throughout his creative career, he worked as a watercolor artist, illustrator, engraver, ex-libris designer, pastelist, draftsman, miniaturist, as well as a designer and illuminator of manuscripts. Later, Somov emigrated to France, where he continued his artistic work until his death on May 6, 1939, in Paris. Among his notable works are "Lady in Blue" and "The Boxer." Konstantin Andreyevich was the son of art historian Andrey Somov. His activity and creativity hold a significant place in the history of Russian modernism and the art of the Silver Age.
