Konstantin Bogaevsky

Biography

Konstantin Fyodorovich Bogaevsky was born on January 12, 1872, in Feodosia, then part of the Russian Empire. He became a Russian and Soviet painter specializing in landscapes and is considered a representative of the Cimmerian School. In his work, Bogaevsky synthesized traditions of Symbolism, Italian Renaissance art (Quattrocento), and 17th-century heroic landscapes. The central theme of his artwork was ancient Cimmeria, depicted through majestic mountains, rolling hills, ancient cities, and sunlit landscapes. In 1933, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR. Konstantin Fyodorovich lived his entire life in his native Feodosia, where he died on February 17, 1943, by then part of the USSR.
