Kolë Idromeno

Biography

Kolë Idromeno was born on August 15, 1860, in the city of Shkodër, then part of the Ottoman Empire and now within Albania. He was an outstanding Albanian artist, painter, architect, sculptor, photographer, stage designer, and engineer, demonstrating a wide creative potential and diverse professional skills. His primary artistic direction was realism, with a particular reputation for portraiture; among his notable works is the painting "Sister Tona." His entire life and career were connected to the city of Shkodër, where he passed away on December 12, 1939. His multifaceted activity included not only the artistic sphere but also architecture and engineering, underscoring the uniqueness of his contribution to the culture and art of the region, blending traits of Albanian and Ottoman cultural traditions.
