Kim Tschang-yeul
Kim Tschang-yeul (1929–2021) was a South Korean artist renowned for his abstract paintings featuring water droplets. He was active in the Art Informel movement and exhibited internationally from the late 1960s, developing his distinctive style in Paris.
Biography
Kim Tschang-yeul was born on December 24, 1929, in Maengsan County. He was a South Korean artist known for his abstract paintings frequently depicting water droplets. During the 1950s and 1960s, he participated in the Art Informel movement and was a member of the Association of Modern Artists of South Korea (현대미술가협회). From the late 1960s, Kim Tschang-yeul began showcasing his work at international exhibitions. He studied in the United States and in 1969 relocated to Paris, where he developed his signature style featuring water droplets. He continued his artistic work until his death on January 5, 2021, in Seoul. His art is associated with the Republic of Korea and represents an important part of contemporary Korean art.
